"Golden Girl" - dramatic overhead light
Taken at the September 22nd workshop, this example of dramatic lighting uses only two lights.
The main light is a small softbox directly above the model and slightly to camera right. It is at a slight angle toward her and slightly in front of her.
The hair light is a small white umbrella behind the model and to the camera left. It is scrimmed from camera by the fill card, which in this shot is very close to the edge of the frame.
Tammy is instructed to keep her face up and toward the light. I stood on a 1 foot tall box in order to get a bit more down angle.
Keeping Tammy's arm on her back gave a nice line to the composition and also let me drop the closer shoulder in order to lengthen her neck and give a nice arch to the head.
Image was shot on a Canon 10D, Photoshop post included:
- Camera Filter 85A - 40%
- Fred Miranda Soft Focus
- Painting detail back from history
- subtle use of the cloning tool to remove lines and such.
Lens was an 80 - 200 at 180mm at f8 |
