Studio shot against black paper. One large umbrella, simple fill and semi-shiny material for bottom fill. This was done with one light in front, and a small umbrella from behind to provide a subtle rim light. I brought the backlight in closer for a stronger rim. it heightens the mood and gives some shape to the hair and shoulders.

The black light was allowed to 'spill' on to the background to give a little separation.

Keeping the main light lower than usual kept the eyes under the hat from being lost.
